How This Works

The UC application has no Common App essay — it has eight Personal Insight Questions, of which your student answers four. The mistake almost everyone makes is picking prompts one at a time. UC readers score the four as a portfolio, so the right question is: which four, together, show four different sides of this student?

What’s included

Every engagement: one dedicated writer start to submit, the no-AI guarantee in the contract, and the student writing every word.

Our Process

Four Steps, Start to Submit

1

The Interview

One long conversation surfaces more material than any prompt list. We gather stories first.

2

Prompt Selection

We match the strongest stories to the four prompts that together cover the most ground.

3

Draft & Edit

Four essays, each coached to say one thing clearly in 350 words.

4

The Portfolio Read

We read all four as a UC reader would — as one picture of one student.

FAQ

Fair Questions, Straight Answers

How is this different from the Common App essay?

PIQs are shorter, more direct, and scored as a set of four. The style that wins a Common App essay — scene-setting, literary build — often works against a PIQ. Our writers coach them differently because UC reads them differently.

Can my student reuse their Common App essay?

Material can carry over; the essay itself can’t. A 650-word narrative doesn’t compress into a 350-word answer — it has to be rebuilt. We handle that rebuild as part of the engagement.

We’re in California — do you know the UC system well?

It’s our home turf. We’re based in Orange County and the UC application is the most common one our families bring us.
